State Auditor Glen Gainer III presented Chief David Brubaker with a check from the subsidy program.
West Virginia Volunteer Fire Departments changed workers' compensation insurance carriers on July 1, 2011. As a result of the switch, many fire departments experienced a rate change, and some faced a substantial increase in workers' compensation premiums. The West Virginia Legislature took action to help mitigate these increases and created a rebate program with the assistance of the offices of the Governor, Auditor, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal.
West Virginia State Auditor Glen B. Gainer III manages the Volunteer Fire Department Workers' Compensation Subsidy Program. In 2011, $970,596.77 was distributed as part of the Volunteer Fire Department Workers' Compensation Subsidy Program.
